前 言：
亚洲当代艺术以其令人瞩目的创造力，赢得全世界前所未有的关注，成为国际文化发展战略中至关重要的组成部分。素有“艺术界亚运会”之称的亚洲国际美术展，已连续举办了22届，在亚洲乃至世界范围具有广泛的学术影响力。中国自1997年参加第12届亚洲国际美术展至今，始终与亚洲各国的艺术家与艺术现象保持积极的沟通与交流。
今天的现实语境日益复杂，经济危机、集团性国际冲突、对待冷战的态度、以及生态问题等等层出不穷。这意味着中西方将共同面对越来越多的社会文化问题、全球性问题、以及不可预知的未来问题。因此，加强“球域”（全球性的和地域性的）合作在所难免，前者具有普遍性让审美经验得以沟通，后者则秉持个性使自我得以坚守。二者相互结合，正是艺术赖以存在、发展的张力。鉴于此，第23届亚洲国际美术展以“和谐亚洲”为主题，旨在提供一个开放的平台，让艺术家充分展示各自不同的生命记忆、个体体验，以及异样异质的独特感受。
本届展览致力于亚洲文化经济的和谐发展，体现亚洲多元、独特的人文症候，为亚洲当代艺术提供丰富的话语实践，促使新观念得以不断地激活与转换。本届参展艺术家分别来自中国、中国澳门、马来西亚、日本、印度尼西亚、泰国、韩国、越南、蒙古、新加坡等十个国家和地区。近300位艺术家以绘画、装置、影像、雕塑、新媒体等创作方式呈现具有智慧的思想生成和基于实验的艺术创意。
时值2008，广州迎来第23届亚洲国际美术展，实为不易。在全球金融危机背景下，国际经济形势严峻、当代艺术环境出现了诸多不确定的因素，能够邀请众多的亚洲艺术家齐聚广州，这本身就是尊重学术、促进本土艺术发展的有力举措。在此，衷心希望亚洲艺术家联盟能够保持敏锐的思维和无限的活力，真正成为建设亚洲文化不可或缺的推动力！

The extraordinary creativity of Asian contemporary art has won unprecedented focus from the whole world, which has become a vital part of international culture development. The Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE), known as “Asian Games of Art Circle”, has been continuously held for 22 years and exerted broad academic influences in Asian and even international art circles. Since the first participation of the 12th AIAE in 1997, China has been keeping an active communication and exchange with artists from other Asian countries.
Today international issues emerge in an endless stream, such as economic crisis, conflicts between political groups, environmental problems, so on and so forth, which are the common difficulties with which both developing and developed countries have to face. Therefore, co-operations among countries and regions are unavoidable, in order to exchange aesthetic experience, and to keep personal characteristics. They are the supporting power of art. The 23rd AIAE chooses “Asia in Harmony” as its theme, which is meant to provide an open platform for artists to express their respective life memories, personal experiences, and inner feelings.
The 23rd AIAE is dedicated to the harmonious development of Asian cultures and economies, to present the diverse and unique human characteristics of Asia, to provide rich discourse experience for Asian contemporary art, to promote the renewing and exchange of new concepts. Nearly 300 artists from China, Macau China, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia and Singapore will bring their works in various forms of paintings, installations, videos, sculptures, new media full of artistic ideas.
It is a grand ceremony for us to meet at the 23rd AIAE in 2008. Global financial crisis and other serious problems have brought lots of uncertainties to contemporary art circles. Groups of Asian artists gathering at Guangzhou are a powerful measure to show respect for academic development. Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to express my warmest welcome to Asian artists, I wish FAA will keep its acute mindsets and infinite vitality to promote Asian culture!
